I don’t know about you, but my heart has been heavy with the painful dynamics of this presidential election. My emotions have run deep and I feel raw. I decided to take the risk and share with you my thoughts and feelings with all that’s been occurring. With that said, I am committed to #RISEandGLOW above the fray and practice what I teach. I first allowed myself to process my feelings of shock, sadness, anger, disgust and grief.
I choose to #RISEandGLOW by sharing my experience and giving a voice to what occurred when I was a young girl. I am a survivor of childhood sexual assault and rape. I share this with you because we live in a rape culture that has normalized and excused sexual violence against women. There are many forms that exist in a rape culture such as the use of misogynistic language and the objectification of women’s bodies which disregards our rights and safety.
There are countless numbers of us who have experienced different levels of intimidation, inappropriate comments and behavior, assault, battery and rape. Based on what has been unveiled during this presidential season, I feel like it is critical that we speak up in order to honor ourselves, our fellow sisters and our supportive brothers. We are at a precipice and we have a great opportunity to #RISEandGLOW due to all that has been exposed.
By allowing ourselves to #RISEandGLOW we can share our collective voices, breaking through the shame and secrecy of sexual abuse or any kind of abuse. My vision for sharing this with you is to come together in community, to be witnessed and witness our courage and fortitude as we stand together to be seen and heard.
I’ve asked myself how to take this very dark time and shine the light of GLOW = Growing, Loving, Opening & Willing so that we may rise and heal as individuals, as a nation and as a Glowbal community.
I decided to write a letter to Donald Trump with the intention of sharing my voice and putting a stake in the ground regardless of what people may think. Don’t get me wrong, I feel vulnerable and scared because we’ve all been taught to stay away from potentially charged topics like politics and sex; however, at this point in time I am choosing to #RISEandGLOW and offer my voice. I am grateful to be at choice and to take this risk as it is part of my healing. My deepest hope is that we find the courage to look in the mirror and connect with our inspiration to take actions that are aligned with who we are and what matters in our lives.
After painstaking reflection, I have found a pathway of hope in my heart. Amidst all of the painful rhetoric that has been carried through our airways, into our homes and into our hearts I feel a deep calling to find a way to address all that has been exposed over the past year and a half.
I have come to the conclusion that a thank you is in order. I thank you for revealing so blatantly what has been either denied, hidden or the elephant in the middle of the room. Your disregard for anyone except yourself has been a wake up call and Mr Trump I am here to answer the call.
We as a country have been complicit and have not accountably faced our deep-seated racism, our hatred and fear of people and cultures that we may not understand and our misogyny that continues to oppress and abuse women. Bottom line, we are all responsible for co-creating as a nation and in the world at large. Many of us have turned our heads or have tolerated injustices as we’ve been witnessing the countless murders of black boys and men. We turn our heads as different cultures are being blamed for the problems we face as a country be it jobs, economics, safety and security. And we as a nation have turned our heads so that we don’t have to see and feel the effects of power and domination over women. Most women I know have experienced some form of sexual abuse or assault and yet we march on. Up until now, with all the mentioned above, there has been very little recourse of justice.
As painful as it is, I thank you for shining such a bright light on the challenges we face as a nation because of your hateful and divisive rhetoric. It has ignited so much pain for so many; however; it also offers us the opportunity to move from being victimized to finding our courage to #RISEandGLOW and address all the painful truths that we face on a daily basis. It is time to speak up and no longer hide in the shadows of shame or fear.
Your rants have provided us an opportunity to put a stake in the ground. I am inspired to say, Here I Stand; I Can Do No Other because I see that I have a role in either perpetuating injustices by staying silent or by offering my voice to address and contribute to the healing of ourselves as individuals first, our families, our communities and together, collectively as a nation.
Our voices MATTER and our voices can make a huge difference in changing the course of humanity with decency, compassion for ourselves and others, offering solutions rather than taking the easy path of complacency.
I thank you for reigniting my passion for activism and making a difference on this planet. I thank you for igniting my hunger to amplifying my energy with loving-kindness, respect and dignity for all.
So, you may ask how do we move forward together? Bottom line when it comes to our growth and personal development we can only make desired changes when we become aware of what is occurring, and Mr. Trump has shown us the depths of work we have ahead of us in our country.
The window of opportunity is here. I believe that we all have gifts to contribute to one another, and the planet at large. By giving our gifts we heal.
I wish for all of us to embrace GLOW, COMPASSION, CURIOSITY, ACCEPTANCE, ACCOUNTABILITY and RESPONSIBILITY. Collectively we can start a GLOWVALUTION by giving our gifts and contributing to one another’s lives so that ALL OF US CAN BE LIBERATED.
I invite you to share this blog post and #RISEandGLOW to support igniting a GLOWVALUTION of LOVE and LIBERATION!!
With LOVE and dreams of peace for all.
