I’ve been thinking about you as we’ve all been witnessing young people throughout our country transform their pain into action. It is incredible to me that the teens in Parkland mobilized themselves immediately after the mass killing in their school.
After each horrific mass shooting in our country, so many of us have thought, maybe this time change will occur, yet nothing has. Not even after twenty precious 6 year old children and six teachers were gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary school.
The massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was the straw that broke the camels back. The survivors are igniting our country and unifying communities that have been living with gun violence for decades. Together they are taking action and declaring ENOUGH!!
As a result, there’s a growing momentum rippling out, empowering others to have a voice, inspiring others to engage in their communities while standing as ONE for change.
It is awe inspiring to see these teens embracing one another, crossing all divides, in the first inclusive movement this country has ever seen. These kids are in recognition of the common ground they share as survivors of this painful epidemic of gun violence.
This saga of pain without change is analogous to how most human beings live their lives. So many of us feel like nothing can be changed, that our problems and circumstances have more power over us than we have over them. And then, after some time, resignation sets in, and we do our best to live with our so-called fate. Some of us get cynical, some get depressed, some get bitter, some live in resentment, some live in denial, all of which feeds the collective cycle of pain that we choose to live with in our lives.
You don’t have to wait for a crisis to make the changes you desire in your life. You don’t have to continue to endure your suffering.
One of the most compelling aspects of this new movement is the profound sense of oneness in their growing community. This is due to their shared experiences. We heal in community because we realize we are not alone in our suffering, and as a result, new unseen possibilities appear. This is where a new sense of purpose is born.
I’m sharing this with you because what we’re witnessing right now with this movement goes hand and hand with the transformational work of Getting Your GLOW On.
My clients are clear that they’ve had ENOUGH of not living their life to the fullest, and are willing to take action and do something about it. For some they need to crash and burn before being willing to change, and for others, they’re just ready for something better NOW. Either way, we end up together in community finding out how much we have in common with one another. It is such a relief to know that we’re not alone.
The common ground my clients share is; they’re no longer willing to live in pain or lack, or to let their circumstances determine their choices and outcomes. They’re ready to be liberated from the “I can’t” and “I’m not enough” conversations in their mind; they’re ready to be liberated from the “I should” or “I have too” admonishments they’ve imposed upon themselves. They’re ready to choose their own thoughts no matter what life, or the people in it, throw their way.
They have a sense of urgency because they understand that yesterday is already to late. They are no longer willing to let time keep passing them by… How about you?
